Job Description

Area Tasks / Duties
Assortment & Product Selection - Research fashion trends, fabrics, colors, designs; monitor what competitors are doing.
- Attend market shows/trade fairs; evaluate sample products.
- Decide on mix of styles, quantity per style, seasonal buys.
Vendor Management & Sourcing - Identify, evaluate and select vendors/suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules.
- Ensure quality standards are met; manage product sampling.
Forecasting & Inventory Planning - Use sales data, forecasting tools to predict demand for each category.
- Plan purchase quantities to avoid stockouts / overstock.
- Monitor inventory turnover and slow-moving items; take actions (discounts, transfers, cancellations etc.).
Cost & Margin Management - Work with cost sheets, landed cost calculations.
- Monitor cost escalation, negotiate to keep margins acceptable.
- Plan for markdowns, promotional pricing.
Coordination & Cross-functional Collaboration - Work with design / trend / merchandising teams for product development or adapting products.
- Coordinate with supply chain / logistics to ensure delivery timelines.
- Liaise with stores / visual merchandising to plan displays, launch promotions.
Performance Monitoring - Track sales vs plan, style‐wise performance.
- Analyze which items sold well or poorly.
- Prepare reports & business reviews; suggest corrective actions.
Compliance & Quality - Ensure products comply with internal quality, safety, labeling standards.
- Ensure that ethical / supply chain / vendor compliance norms are met.
