Job Description

  1. Policy Implementation & Oversight

    • Ensure proper implementation of Income Tax laws and government policies.

    • Monitor and guide the functioning of subordinate tax offices.

    • Provide strategic inputs to the CBDT for policy formulation.

  2. Administration & Leadership

    • Supervise Commissioners and regional offices under their jurisdiction.

    • Ensure smooth functioning and efficiency of departmental operations.

    • Approve major decisions related to tax assessments, audits, and investigations.

  3. Investigation & Compliance

    • Oversee investigations into tax evasion, fraud, and non-compliance.

    • Ensure enforcement of tax laws and collection of dues.

    • Coordinate with other agencies (CBI, Enforcement Directorate, etc.) when necessary.

  4. Revenue Planning & Monitoring

    • Monitor revenue targets and ensure timely collection of direct taxes.

    • Analyze trends in tax compliance and revenue generation.

    • Implement corrective measures for underperformance in tax collection.

  5. Advisory & Coordination

    • Advise the government on tax-related matters and policy decisions.

    • Coordinate with Ministries, RBI, SEBI, and other government bodies.

    • Represent India in international tax forums, if applicable.

  6. Reporting & Documentation

    • Submit regular reports to CBDT and Finance Ministry.

    • Maintain records of investigations, audits, and enforcement actions.
